Introducing The Scout<\/a>, a NY-based online magazine which specializes in discovering and illuminating the finest destinations the city has to offer. Leading up to the soon-to-launch Shinola Bike Tour<\/a>, we asked The Scout to put together two bike tours featuring some of their favorite places in New York. They’ll be talking about the first tour today, and the second one next week.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

What to see, what to eat, where to shop—these are all vital questions for any visitor, or any local for that matter, when it comes to navigating New York City. There are many options to explore the boroughs—those red double decker buses should not be one of them. Public transportation is a good alternative but you miss out on a lot being underground or in a bus. And cars? Unless you’re willing to endure the traffic and pay unreasonable parking fees, it’s definitely not worth it. The best way to see the city is on a bike.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the editor of The Scout, it’s always been a goal of ours to discover the unique parts to the city and to share it with our readers. When Shinola approached us to contribute to The Journal, we knew we wanted to design a bike tour around New York City. <\/span><\/p>\n

We’ll be showing you parts of NYC we’re currently excited about, riding along two rivers, through parks and scenic routes. Frequent stops will be made at shops, restaurants and landmarks to fulfill your retail and cultural cravings. Locals will be familiar with many of these destinations and be surprised by others, while visitors will get an insider’s perspective that no guidebook can offer. The tour utilizes many of the designated bike paths laid out to the public and emphasizes the scenic waterfront views.<\/span><\/p>\n

The tour will be split into two parts, with the first starting in Red Hook, Brooklyn and ending in Roosevelt Island. All in, this part of the tour will take the entire day. We’ll be riding 14 miles through three boroughs. <\/span><\/p>\n
