Since starting your own ethical, luxury sweater line last year, how have people responded to your brand?
It’s been amazing to see the positive response to the first collection. People love that we’ve blended classic design with modern details. They’re often surprised by how soft our American wool is. When I hear people getting excited about the ethics of the brand, it makes me especially happy. I want to make beautiful high quality pieces, but it’s very important to me to do this in a responsible way.

When did you first hear about Shinola?
My brother introduced me to the Shinola brand a couple of years ago, before most people had heard of it. His wife bought him a watch for Christmas. She has amazing taste and a knack for discovering unique pieces. My brother loves his watch, the Shinola brand and their story. When he shared the brand with me, I became a super fan too. I can’t think of a brand that sets a better example for Tempest + Bentley. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some of the incredible people behind Shinola. It’s inspiring to see the passion they have for creating beautiful products that are not only high quality, but ethically made and support socially responsible manufacturing as well. All things Tempest + Bentley strives to do.
I love that Shinola is proving that the modern day recipe for success isn’t just about selling. It’s about supporting a happy workforce and building an ethical manufacturing model too. I hope that Tempest + Bentley, like Shinola, inspires people to take a closer look at how and where things are made.
